Alaska Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center

Despite its location, Alaska is certainly not exempt from drug abuse; in fact, it has become a major route for drug smugglers, and ranks among of the highest per capita drug use of any state. It also has one of the highest incidences of alcoholism, and meth and prescription drug abuse, as in the lower 48 states, is rampant and rising.

Addiction Recovery

To help combat these unhappy statistics, Alaska uses money collected from drug traffickers to pay for alcohol and drug rehabilitation and treatment programs. Both inpatient and outpatient care are available, though treatment centers may most often be found in larger cities like Fairbanks and Anchorage. That does not mean that local help is unavailable, however, just that you should do some thorough research to find a treatment center or program that is right for you.

There is a long list of treatment centers, mental health centers, hospitals, and other services for treatment of drug abuse and alcoholism within Alaska. Many of these are privately run, and the level of service varies from counseling to managed care, hospices and halfway houses, and support groups. The search for the proper treatment center for your particular drug or alcohol program will probably begin on the internet or with the phone book. Alaska is no different from any other state in the desire of its government to address this problem, so both public and private facilities are available.

Be sure that any program you do find has experience and the proper facilities to treat the type of abuse with which you need help. Not every treatment center will offer the same services. A drug detox center may not have a good outreach program for families or offer extended follow-up counseling and therapy. An outpatient clinic may not be set up for inpatient drug detoxification. Cost and location may be especial factors in Alaska, where comprehensive treatment may be concentrated in a limited number of facilities. Alternatively, you may take advantage of a detox clinic in Anchorage, and find additional counseling and behavior therapy closer to home.

No treatment center will be right for everyone, in Alaska or anywhere else. Shun any facility that makes such a claim. Treatment for drug abuse and alcohol recovery differs according to each individual, so if you are looking for treatment for yourself or a loved one, make sure that the program you choose offers individualized attention and care tailored to your specific needs.
